Hello everybody! We made it back from our road trip to Arizona. The Motmot Shop will be open for business starting February 16 from noon to 7 pm. What you see in the picture is a Saguaro Cactus. They grow in the Arizona desert around Tucson. In the Saguaro National Park you find the biggest and oldest Saguaro Cacti. Only after 75 years a Saguaro grows its first arm. This one is probably over 150 years old. If you look closer you see lots of holes, woodpeckers and owls live there. Now I know how Charles Schulz got his idea to make Spike’s home - Snoopy’s brother - a Saguaro Cactus.

Hallo! Wir sind zurück von unserer Reise in die Wüste Arizonas. Der Motmot Shop öffnet mit dem 16. Februar wieder seine Türen. Die Zeiten sind wie immer 12 - 19 Uhr. Der Kaktus im Bild ist ein Saguaro. Diese Kakteenart wächst um Tucson in Arizona. Im Saguaro Nationalpark finden sich die ältesten und größten Kakteen. Erst nach 75 Jahren bekommt ein Saguro seinen ersten Arm. Unser Exemplar hier ist wahrscheinlich 150 Jahre und älter. Beim genaueren Hinsehen sind Löcher zu entdecken, wo Spechte und Eulen hausen. Damit erklärt sich auch, wie Charles Schulz auf die Idee kam, Spikes Zuhause - Snoopys Bruder - in einen Kaktus zu verlegen.
