Hello everybody! See what we are up to in our winter vacation: I 8 NY - a giant wall painting from the comic Cheetahs Never Win by Steve Reeder - is shown in the exhibition WIR WOHNEN at Kunstraum Niederösterreich which opens January 14, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Herrengasse 13, 1010 Vienna. Show me where you live, and I‘ll tell you who you are! With these words curator Ingeborg Strobl is questioning the standard reception of the notion of home. Invited artists are: Regula Dettwiler, Norbert Gmeindl, Stefan Gyurko, Johann Peter Hlustik, Susi Jirkuff, Clemens Kirsch, Trude Lukacsek, Lotte Lyon, Christoph Meier, Prinzgau/Podgorschek, Liddy Scheffknecht, Alexandra Schlag, Tatia Skhirtladze, Suvat and Steve Reeder. I 8 NY - eine Wandmalerei im Überformat aus dem Comic Cheetahs Never Win von Steve Reeder - wird in der Ausstellung WIR WOHNEN im Kunstraum Niederösterreich gezeigt. Die Eröffnung findet am 14. Jänner 2010 um 19 Uhr in der Herrengasse 13, 1010 Wien statt. Zeig mir, wie du wohnst und ich sage dir, wer du bist! Mit diesen Worten führt die Kuratorin Ingeborg Strobl in die Ausstellung ein und hinterfragt gleichzeitig den gängigen Begriff des WOHNENs. Motmot @ Pecha Kucha Vienna

This is a video from yesterday’s Pecha Kucha  Night in Vienna. Motmot was part of it. In a short lecture of 6 minutes and 40 seconds Steve talks about the Motmot tshirt graphics, poster designs, buttons and the comic Cheetahs Never Win… he was actually singing to his drawings I 8 NY and I need a hug. Later we printed lots of free Future City motifs for a wonderful audience.

In 6 Minuten und 40 Sekunden erzählt Steve einiges über T-Shirts, Posters, Buttons und sein Indie-Comic Cheetahs Never Win. Zu guter letzt singt er zu den Zeichnungen I 8 NY und I need a hug. Anschließend haben wir noch jede Menge Future City Tshirts gedruckt für ein neugieriges Publikum.

VERY FUNNY! Book-Release Party

Yesterday evening we went to the +rosebud VERY FUNNY! release party. A series of Steve’s Cheetahs-Never-Win comics were published through page 441 to 432 – yes the pages are counted backwards. The presentation of the book was good and simple. If you look closer you see that each book resembles a red brick, together they form a red block, shrink-wrapped for a better delivery. VERY FUNNY! is now available at the Motmot Shop.

Gestern Abend haben wir die +rosebud VERY FUNNY! Buchpräsentation besucht. Steves Zeichnungen aus der Serie Cheetahs-Never-Win sind hier von Seite 441 bis 432 abgebildet – genau, richtig gelesen, die Seiten laufen andersrum. Die Präsentation der Bücher war gut und simpel. Auf einer Original-Palette, in Folie verpackt, wirkten die Bücher wie Ziegelsteine, die einen rießigen roten Block formten. VERY FUNNY! gibt’s jetzt auch im Motmot Shop.

Out now: +rosebud VERY FUNNY!, a 600 page book that includes the longest joke in the world, and explores the previously unimagined depths and pitfalls of our fun-and-games culture. Motmot made it into this book with Steve’s drawings and his out-there humor (Featured previously in Cheetahs Never Win). We are still waiting for our copies of VERY FUNNY which will be sold at the Motmot Shop soon! There will also be an exhibition at rosebud in the former Yugoslavian Embassy, Salmgasse 4a, 1030 Vienna, starting Sep 14 to Oct 30, from 10 to 5 p.m. on weekdays only! Ha Ha Ha!

+rosebud VERY FUNNY!, ein 600 Seiten dickes Buch, das den längsten Witz der Welt enthält und sonst noch allerhand Lustiges zu bieten hat. Motmot is mit Steves Zeichnungen und seinem dunkelgrauen Humor auch dabei. Wir warten noch auf einige Ausgaben von VERY FUNNY!, die bald bei uns im Motmot Shop erhältich sein werden. Übrigens: es gibt auch eine Ausstellung zum Buch und zwar bei rosebud – in den Räumlichkeiten der früherer jugoslawischen Botschaft – in der Salmgasse 4a, 1030 Wien, die vom 14. September bis 30. Oktober läuft und wochentags von 10 bis 17 Uhr geöffnet ist! Ha Ha Ha!

Our Summer Vacation

posterspreviewHey there friends, buddies, associates, and compadres. I’m just giving a general update about what we’ve been up to. We have been busy. First and foremost are the posters we’ve been printing for the Fortsetzung Folgt (To Be Continued) exhibition, we’ve been asked to design and screen print a series of posters for an exhibition about public art in Lower Austria (Niederoesterreich.) The posters are turning out really great, the whole thing is a “work in process.” No two posters look exactly alike, and some of the posters and prints will actually be in the exhibition itself. You can catch a sneak peek to the left here! I will be writing more about this in the near future. The exhibition opens on Thursday, September 17th at 7 pm, at the Kunstraum Niederoesterreich, here in Vienna! See you there!
If that weren’t enough, some of our work will be featured in another exhibition titled “Cute Puppies” which takes place September 9th at the MAK in Vienna. We will have more details when we get them! The exhibition will feature some of my drawings from “Cheetahs Never Win” in giant format!
Speaking of Cheetahs Never Win, I’ve got most of issue #3 done in some form, and I’ve got a lot of sketches and ideas for the rest. After all this other creative work is finished, I will be hunkerin’ down in September and October to wrap it up, and it looks like CNW #3 will be out sometime in mid Autumn, I’m thinking sometime in October or November.
