Recess Charm and Joyride
The Joyride in yellow, was also had the Joyride in a minty green. The Charm in Black.
Hozang! I haven’t updated this blog in over a year! Dang!
These all arrived in our first Recess Shipment. The Joyride is a monometal version of the beloved First Base and our first shipment of Joyrides was the short-lived fingerspin edition. I remember this yoyo playing really well, but can’t say anything to specific about it. It’s a great organic yoyo, that plays with a certain amount of swing and swagger and is also kind of casual. I do remember my friend Bernhard bought one, and that he stopped at the shop before going to see Slayer at the Stadthalle in Vienna.
The Joyride has come and gone in many versions over the years, but remains in production and we still get new versions from time to time.
The Charm is a different story, when it arrived it seemed very different from everything we had stocked before and had an “otherworldly” feeling to it. I think it was the first time I had really handled a truly “boutique” yoyo. The Charm was a competition oriented yoyo that would still hold up by today’s standards, (46.75 mm wide, 46.6 g, bimetal) and this one was solid black with black rings and no engravings. I can remember that the Charm felt powerful and spun for a very long time when I was trying to learn the fundamentals, although I didn’t keep one. I believe this was from the very last run of Charms.
This 2018 Charm promo video with Ky Zizan has aged particularly well. It definitely gives off 2010’s vibes, but the yoyo play is top notch, even by todays standards!
